The Styles of Writing

Chapter thirteen was focused on the style of the writing you use. It can dramatically change whom your target audience is depending on how you use it. Certain words can be focused on certain audiences and vice versa. It all depends on, once again, whom you are trying to get your point across too. This can also greatly affect a claim in an argument. This chapter talked about three different "types of talk", they were High, Middle, and Low. With Low talk being the form of speech that we would probably use in text messages and other forms of communication with friends and family. An example of Low talk would be using the word "like" when you are trying to get your point across to your friends who are essentially and informal audience so there is no need to be worried about using "filler words" such as the word "like." With these types of "talk" also comes the vocabulary that one would use. This can also take an affect on who you are talking to. You probably would not use words such as "extrapolate" and "enormous" with children. They just simply would not understand what those mean, unless they are some sort of super human and was trained by their parents to learn big words since birth. But that's beside the point. When talking to an audience you should use words that can relate to the topic at hand and be able to correlate with your audience. Picking and choosing which words to use, can help you win or loose and argument. If you pick words that undermine your stance then where is that going to take you, NO WHERE BUT INTO THE GROUND. OBVIOUSLY. Let's get some common sense here people. But in all seriousness, the style of the writing you use along with the vocabulary that is being used in the writing can take you far or leave you struggling to catch a break.

Pathos... Sometimes it screws you over.

Pathos is used everywhere in our lives. It is a fundamental to get people to react to something. Pathos is used to draw the reader in and get their attention through emotions. Creators use it to pull on the heart strings of the readers to get a reaction and an emotion. The use Pathos to bring out a rise in people and cause a bigger impact when it comes to ad's or scripture. Pathos is used in many places for emotion but what we also need to understand is that it can be used in the wrong ways as well. If companies want to get a point across they can use pathos but sometimes certain adds can become too emotional or have too much of an impact, that it makes people cringe at the sight of them, therefore turning them away and ending in the company not getting what they are trying to produce across.

When I think of Pathos, I immediately replay the BCSPCA commercial above with Sarah McLachlan. Every time i hear this commercial come on I immediately have to change the channel. I do this simply because for me, it's too much. However, this is a good example of pathos. It pulls at the heart strings by showing images of the animals and it also uses music that brings out a sad emotion. To me this is a good example of Pathos because it does just that, it brings out emotion. On the other hand I think this can also be a bad representation of Pathos. It makes me change the channel every time it comes on because it is almost too much for me to handle.

Arguments Are Everywhere.

If we take a step back and realize just how many arguments we come across in our day to day lives we can see that arguments come pretty close to being in every aspect of our everyday lives. Without arguments, we would not be able to have our own opinions without arguments. Society would agree with everything and therefore a perfect world would be implemented. However, since this is not the case, arguments are the closest things we have to protecting our beliefs, and fundamentals. Living in our digital age today, we come across many arguments from political, religion, and even morale. We all have something that pertains to us that we believe in and take a stance on and there is always someone who does not agree with your thinking, thus arguments arise. With the implements of SOPA and PIPA on society it seems that more arguments are arising and everyone is getting a voice. To me, this is one of the biggest arguments of our time and we have to get the government to listen to our argument. The simple fact that they are actually thinking of doing this outrages me. It seems like now a days we cannot do anything without "Big Brother" breathing down our necks. It would be nice to know that our internet was safe as well...

It's Me, and NO ONE else.

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to write about. Partly because I was extremely busy and did not have time to sit down and write. But now that I have had a chance to I'll share myself.

Name: Austin
Fun Fact: all the children in my family have A names and my parents both have J names. weird... I know.

Nickname: AMTAG
Fun Fact: I had this as my license plate for three years. I still have no idea why I chose it as my personalized plate.

Favorite Color: ORANGE!
Fun Fact: I made a painting with Crayola crayons that is made entirely of the shades of orange that come in a Crayola crayon box.

Car: Mini Cooper S
Color: Hot Chocolate with a White roof and Mirrors
Fun Fact: My friends and I affectionately call the car either of two names: "The Poop Coop" or "Mocha with Light Whip"

Favorite Music: Everything
Fun Fact: My music tastes vary depending on how I'm feeling that week or day. I like mostly anything but at the same time I can hate most anything.

Favorite Website: Tumblr.
Fun Fact: I have had a Tumblr for a little over a year, and am already considered "Tumblr Famous".

That sort of sums me up for those of you who don't know me on a basic level. But here is a more in depth look.

So, those who know me know that my iPhone is attached at my hip, seriously its surgically implanted there (kidding of course because that would be nast). So if you text me and I don't reply you can imply one of two things: either A: I'm dead or B: I don't feel the need to talk to you right now.

On weekends I like hanging out with my friends and doing random stuff. It usually depends what we do because our moods can either make us spontaneous or really lazy. I love being out and about and just having a good time.

I'm usually very social but I do have my moments when I'll shy away and sort of "hide" away from reality. Not because I want to just because sometimes I like my own space. :)

Well there you go, if you want to know more just ask!
